Some thoughts from the artist:
Our life in the 6-8 months preceding this piece had been extremely unpredictable, volatile, and very unstable as we have been hurtled into a completely different space with one of our kiddos. The amount of control and structure and consistency needed to get through the day, let alone an hour at a time, had been immense. As I started feeling the pull back to the studio, I knew it couldn't be to paint the way I have previously.
Loosening my strokes, changing my medium, lightening my color palette, exploring different subject matter... all of it was a part of me finding a space for release. Letting go of the control. Allowing my body and mind to find a place of peace.
I feel on the precipice of something in these new pieces. But more than that, I felt my shoulders lowering from around my ears. My breath pulling into my belly instead of my chest. My pulse settling. I felt my nervous system starting to settle. My body healing herself with every scene I painted.
