Some thoughts from the artist:
I know the saying, "it's always darkest before the dawn" and I gotta say, the dawn better be coming soon because it's been real dark for a long-ass time over here.
Just before starting this piece I had zero space or thoughts about creativity because of everything we were needing to navigate through as a family the last 6 months or so. At the time, I had started to tell the people who asked if I had been in my studio lately, to stop asking. There was no way to create. Our life felt like a pressure cooker and the strain on our marriage, family unit, and my mental health has been extreme.
This piece was an expression of hoping for the dawn to break.
